Crypto Crime: Nigerian Politician Paid $15K Ransom in Bitcoin to Save His daughter

Dr Umar Ardo, a Nigerian politician had to pay $15,000 in Bitcoin to rescue his kidnapped daughter. Last week, the 24-year-old Aisha Ardo was kidnapped at a shopping mall in Asokoro, Abuja, Nigeria. Her father was contacted by one of the kidnappers who said his daughter would return to him safely if he cooperates with them.

I then asked what would you want me to do in order to get back my daughter? He said you are going to pay us $15,000. If you cooperate with us your daughter would return to you but if you don’t cooperate with us you will never see her again alive.

The gang demanded $15,000 in Bitcoin, Ardo said he had never used Bitcoin before and needed help to pay the demanded ransom in Bitcoin as the kidnappers had forced him to do so. The caller later sent him the wallet address to which he would send Bitcoin.

Dr Umar said: I told them I don’t know how to do this bit payment but the caller insisted I must learn. I will text you our address through which you will go and make the payment; it is up to you to do that; don’t forget the life of your daughter is on the line.

The gang released Aisha Ardo once her father made the payment.
