Cryptocurrency Scam Targets British Investors: Cancer Patient Shares Personal Losses

In a distressing turn of events, Tom Roberts, a 66-year-old British man, has fallen victim to an intricate cryptocurrency scheme, losing £10,000 of his hard-earned retirement money. Roberts, who is currently battling cancer, has come forward to raise awareness and caution others about the dangers of investing in what he describes as a “scam.”

According to Daily Record, Roberts is part of a group of approximately 30 individuals who claim to have been affected by an alleged fraudulent operation run by Safe Holdings, a registered company in the Caribbean. Safe Holdings purportedly utilizes cutting-edge trading software to analyze the cryptocurrency market and generate profitable investments.

Expressing his frustration, Roberts stated, “It is embarrassing – you don’t want to tell anyone because they will think you are an idiot, but this is all in hindsight. These people have to be stopped. I want to expose this company and make sure it doesn’t happen to anyone else.”

Former oil worker Tom Roberts asserts that he lost his retirement savings after investing with the company while undergoing chemotherapy for high-grade lymphoma. Over the span of four months in 2021 and 2022, he invested a total of £16,000 after being referred by a friend who was reportedly earning around £300 per week. However, Roberts claims to have lost £10,000 of his investment.

Throughout his dealings, Roberts primarily interacted with an individual named Chris O’Brien, believed to be the company’s operator, who communicated with clients via the WhatsApp messaging service.

The scheme operates primarily through word of mouth, with investors who have earned profits referring friends and family to set up accounts. Subsequently, the alleged scammer Chris O’Brien contacts them via WhatsApp to ask victims to set up an account with Starling Bank and transfer cash.
